SMOKY
QUARTZ
WHERE THERE'S SMOKE THERE'S FIRE!
Smoky Quartz receives its name due to its striking hue. It ranges in colour from light greyish-brown to deep black, which is referred to as Morion.
The Smoky Quartz gemstones that exhibit a deep brown colour tend to be the most valuable. The brown colouring comes from natural radiation interacting with aluminium traces within the gemstone. This process occurs over a period of several million years, with longer periods creating darker Smoky Quartz shades.
