Stunning art nouveau Malachite pendant, beautifully handmade and exclusively designed by Empress Jewellery. This magnificent free-flowing pendant measures 69mm x 42mm. It has been created in 925 sterling silver, and features a smaller Green Onyx drop below the main stone. 
 
The name Malachite is believed to originate from the Greek word “molochitus”, referring to the mallow leaf which is similar in colour. Malachite has been used by humans since antiquity. In Ancient Egypt, the colour green was highly symbolic, representing new life and fertility. The ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans also believed malachite warded off evil spirits. It was often carved into amulets and has a long history of having protective qualities. It has been found all over the world, including Zaire, Russia, Germany, France, Chile, Australia, Arizona and New Mexico. The Russian Tsars often used Malachite to decorate their palaces. Malachite is considered a rare gemstone, in that the original deposits for the stones have been depleted leaving behind very few sources.
