This beautiful gemstone is named after the fortified wine made in the Madeira Islands, just off the coast of Portugal. Citrines have a wide colour range from lemon yellow to reddish brown. Typically, the deeper coloured stones are more valued than the lighter tones, including those with reddish tints. A reddish-orange color is often referred to as ‘Madeira’ coloured.
