Stunning Larimar and Topaz pendant, brilliantly handmade and designed by Empress Jewellery. Created in 925 sterling silver, and electroplated with 3 microns thickness of 23ct gold. This magnificent Larimar pendant measures 70 x 40mm.
 
Larimar is a rare variety of the silicate mineral Pectolite, only recently discovered in the 1970s. The only source of this beautiful stone is the Dominion Republic, in the Caribbean. Larimar has an extraudinary blue colour, similar to the ocean in tropical areas. Hardness varies between 5-7 on the Mohs scale, with the darker blue stones, such as this one, ranging closer to 7. Miguel Mendez discovered this stone in 1974. He named this lovely blue gemstone after his daughter Larissa, and also the sea (mar is the Spanish word for sea), hence the name Larimar.
