Rose de France Amethyst is a particular variety of Amethyst that displays a stunning pink-to-lilac colour. Mined solely in southern Brazil, it was first known as Brazilian Amethyst. Later, it became widely popular throughout Europe, resulting in the name ‘Rose de France’. Traditional, deep purple Amethyst derives its colour from iron, however, the delicate shade of this gemstone is due to the presence of titanium oxide. 
 
For many years, Amethyst was held to be one of the most precious gemstones, often favoured by royalty. It was even regarded for many years to be as valuable as the Diamond. Amethysts are featured in jewels worn by Catherine the Great, Egyptian royalty and are also featured in the British Crown Jewels. It wasn’t until the discovery of more abundant supplies of Amethyst, that it became a gemstone enjoyed by more than just the wealthiest buyers.
